Basic CPT Coding Training


REQUIREMENTS – participants must:

 

have completed training in medical terminology and anatomy & physiology;

have a current copy of the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code book during each Audio Camp;

devote time to complete ALL exercises in the comprehensive handout/workbook (an Answer Key is provided).

 

OBJECTIVE:

Each program will provide individuals with the official CPT coding guidelines for the most commonly performed outpatient surgery procedures – giving these individuals the ability to code the high volume procedures found in most facilities.  Exercises/Case Studies based on actual outpatient surgery operative reports will be used to build the participants’ coding skills.  An Answer Key will be provided for all exercises/Case Studies.  EACH COMPREHENSIVE HANDOUT IS ALSO A CODING WORKBOOK CONTAINING NUMEROUS EXERCISES! 

 

DURATION:  2 HOURS Minimum Per Course (based on client needs)

INSTRUCTOR: 

Lolita M. Jones, RHIA, CCS,  is an independent consultant specializing in hospital outpatient and ambulatory surgery center coding, billing, reimbursement, and operations.  She has over 25 years of experience in publishing, training, and auditing for the hospital outpatient and freestanding ambulatory surgery center (ASC) markets.  Ms. Jones is an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer. She has also earned both the Registered Health Information Administrator and Certified Coding Specialist credentials from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in Chicago, IL. 

Since 2000, Ms. Jones has been a frequent contributor to a monthly “modifier” column for the “Briefings on APCs” newsletter (HCPro, Marblehead, MA).  

In 2002, Ms. Jones served as the Editor and Co-Author of the comprehensive Healthcare Reimbursement Methodologies book (available on CD-ROM from the American Health Information Management Association, Chicago, IL). 

Ms. Jones resides in Fort Washington, Maryland, and she has developed six (6) specialty manuals for freestanding ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) as well as comprehensive manuals for ambulatory payment classification (APC) training programs, such as: APC Institute: Outpatient Compliance Action Plan, APC Institute: Billing and Reimbursement Update, APC Institute: Impact on Emergency Room Service, APC Institute: Clinical Documentation Strategies, and APC Institute: Coding Guidelines for Hospitals.
